Three Games in Three Days

My journey started Friday night with a replay of the 6A High School Football Championship game from last season with Central Catholic playing Jesuit. I always love the first prep game of the season. The light is always spectacular. As the season progresses the light and weather go downhill fast. 

Directly after the game at Hillsboro Stadium I drove straight to Eugene to prepare for ESPN College GameDay coverage in the morning. After filing my images I headed to Autzen Stadium to shoot Oregon playing Michigan State. What a game. The light had a very nice quality to it because of nearby forest fires creating thick haze. 

Finally, I headed to Providence Park on Sunday to cover the Portland Timbers playing the San Jose Earthquakes. 

All three games, while very different, were top notch and really fun to document. 

NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.

Shooting the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships turned out to be one of the most exciting sporting events I've every witnessed. For the women, it came down to the last three steps in the last race of the day when Phyliss Francis pulled ahead of Texas to win the 4x100 and also put the team ahead to win. 

A week at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio

I covered the Oregon Ducks playing the Texas Longhorns in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. For a non-BCS bowl, it was pretty good show.

My Favorite Oregon Duck Football Photos from the 2012-13 Season

I shot every game except Arkansas State, Tennessee Tech and Cal. I traveled with the Ducks to University of Washington, Stanford, Arizona State, and USC. I only shot one Oregon State Beaver game besides the Civil War, which was at Stanford.

My favorite photo came when the Ducks walked through the tunnel at USC for warmups. Another photographer had some green-gelled lights set up and I just happen to have shot a photo at the exact same moment he did. It made the players look like storm-troopers.

I also loved seeing the Ducks beat USC on the road. The USC fans were not pleased.

Overall, it was a great year to be the Ducks beat photographer for The Oregonian.

I'm a bit late on this, but here's a snap from the Rose Bowl. I was just going looking at the take again and realized this was probably the most memorable scene from the game for me...the sunset.

ESPN Gameday Live Broadcast in Tucson, Arizona

ESPN Gameday fans put on a good show this morning at during the live broadcast. I have no idea who the guys are in these posters but I thought they were hilarious.
