>I shot this photo for a London based women's magazine. I first met Kimberly Duncan when she was 12-years-old and wieghed 325 pounds. Her health was suffering so her family elected to have undergo gastric bypass surgery. It's been reported that she was the youngest person in the United States, if not the entire world to have the surgery. She's now 16-years-old and well over 100 pounds lighter. However, she's left with an abundance of loose skin hanging off her body, for which the surgery costs an additional $30,000 to remove. Her family is still feeling the finanical pressure from the orginal surgery and cannot afford do have it done. The magazine that commissioned the photo ran a story titled something like, "What they don't tell you about gastric bypass surgery." They then appealed to their readers to help raise money and offered up a token amount of money to get the fund started.

>Crabbing Trip
>Here's the story of my trip on a crab boat out of Newport, Ore. I was on the boat for 20 hours. Even though I had a prescription sea sickness patch, I battled nausea and vomiting the entire time. I really came to respect the deckhands Claude and Tony as well as Skipper Al. They are very hard-working guys and very good at what they do.
>Prep Swimming Dual Meet
>Sometimes we don't have time to stay for the entire meet to see who's going to win. In this case, I shot a photo that's somewhat generic in that it doesn't show a particular swimmer. I think, it's an interesting look at what was happening. It's more of a scene-setter image. Sometimes an image like this is refreshing and it's something we don't do enough. We are often focused on the best performance or play of the game, which has it's place for sure. But, I don't think it hurts to mixi it up a bit.

>I'm 40-years-old today. My mind stopped maturing at age 27. My gut kept pace with my age. But, I'm healthy, and I feel pretty good. Carrie got me some Tempurpedic slippers. They're like butter!

>Hollywood Horses
>Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson were shooting a movie up the McKenzie River at Koosah Falls. We went up there with permission from some dude in Hollywood working on the production. We get the big run around but are finally escorted within about 100-yards of where they are actually filming. I was told I could not shoot the actors. No problem there, I never saw them. I thought for sure I was going to leave without any photos. Then, at the last minute, the wranglers come by with the horses that the lead actors are using the movie. That's all I got.

>Flooding in Mapleton
>I went to Mapleton, and shot flooding, went to Deadwood to shoot a mudslide, found some kayakers in Tide, at lunch in Florence, stopped in Eugene and shot the owner of fish market, put the photos in the system and then went and shot a Tai Chi instructor before going home. It sounds easy I guess, but after driving 186 miles and working 12 hours, I'm still tired.

>Taxi Driver
>For the past year, mostly because of this blog, and because I went fully digital last January, I've a camera with me pretty much all the time. For the most part, it's been a pain in the butt. Other times it's paid off in small ways. In this case, I shot a photo of my taxi driver in Tempe, AZ. The biggest benefit is just getting to know a new camera system and practicing with it as much as possible. I'm pretty sure I've shot more photos this year than any other year of my career.
