>Canon Mark II Settings
Carl Davaz set up a page so we can download settings for our Mark II cameras. There's also a link to an article on jpeg settings on DPReview.com .
>Unique Lane County Events
>Every year most photojournalists go through their work to prepare for the January contest deadlines. I'm starting the process now. Below are three shots from three different weekend events I found in the edit. I thought they all three played off each other nicely.
All three are quite unique to Lane County and I'm grateful for that. I've shot the big Rose Festival Parade in Portland, and it's not half as interesting as these three events.
>Oregon Country Fair
>
Long known as a hippy fest, The Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, Oregon has several parades a day, all guaranteed to be stranger than the one before.
>Animal House Parade
>
Yes, it's true, Cottage Grove, Oregon hosts a parade commemorating the film Animal House. This float is a human powered accordian full of accordian players.
>Eugene Celebration Parade
>
On one side of the float was a living statue of the firefighters at Ground Zero. On the opposite side a scene from the crucifiction of Jesus as seen in the movie The Passion of Christ.
The Eugene Celecbration Parade is known for it's wacky floats, but this one took the prize. As Ken Babbs said as he had a running commentary on each float, "Whoa! That's heavy, man."
>POYi
>
The entry form for POYi is out. I've been going through my stuff. I've concluded that I have no chance whatsoever of winning this year.
But, I'll enter this in the pictorial category and hope for the best.
You can't win if you don't play.
>Nikon
>SportsShooter.com - D2h metering problem
I can't help but feel bad for Nikon. They are getting killed. Not only did they build a camera too late, it was only 4 megapixels. Then they announce the D2X that doesn't interest newspaper photographers at all. Now, hardly a day goes by that a new thread starts up where thirty photographers detail a new, serious problem with the camera or with extremely poor repair service.
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm starting to think the D2H is going to bring down the company.
I've always preferred Nikon cameras over Canon. I've always thought Nikon was the better company. I hate to admit it, but I'm wavering. I hope the best for them. But, they've got to get it together.
Note to Nikon: Build a competitive camera! 8 megapixels and 8 frames a second with no noise.
>Sol Neelman's Portfolio
This this Sol's portfolio. It's a Quicktime show of his best work. It's not bad except for the glaring obvious lack of what we call in the business a, "Picture Story." He knows about this serious omission he just isn't willing to do anything about it. He won't listen to me...or Rob Finch.
>Birthday Invitation
>
This invitation has expired. Their birthday was Aug. 25. But, I thought it was cool enough to put up. Besides, they're so cute.
>Siuslaw River
>
I spent most of the day struggling to find a decent feature picture in Florence, Ore. This is normally an easy task. Florence has the dunes, the beach, lakes, parks, and plenty of people doing things outdoors. A storm hit and everyone stayed indoors. The sky was white. I decided to wait until the sun went down. This is the image I sent. It shows the marina on the Siuslaw River as seen from the boardwalk on Bay Street.
Technical Info: I shot this on a Canon 20D with a 24/1.4 lens at 800 asa. I put the white balance on tungsten and underexposed it by almost 2 stops to give it a saturated cool tone look. In photoshop I clipped the shadows and highlights. I lightened the boats in curves using the history tool, darkened the sky and ran Velvia Vision over it for contrast and saturation.
>I've updated galleries on my website
This is my wedding website but I have other galleries as well. I've just added a Daily Newspaper Assignments gallery and updated my Sports Gallery. You can also see my Wedding Gallery and my Portrait Gallery
>Seeing in the Dark
>
I thought it would be interesting to do a little photo essay showing how things look so different at night. I will publish it on the shortest day of the year. I will shoot more in the next week or so.
>Marty on Stage at the WOW Hall on Dec. 3.
>
I promise this will be the last Soldier's post for awhile, but after all that I figured I should at put a photo of them up.
>Soldiers' Story
Here's a story Lewis Taylor and did from our trip to Portland when the Rock n' Soldiers played at the Crystal Ballroom.
>Rock n' Roll Soldiers photo gallery
>SportsShooter.com - Special Gallery
Here's a gallery from my trip to L.A. with the Rock n' Soliders.
>Mosh Pit at the Rock n' Soldiers
>
I've been following a young band since this March. I went to L.A. with reporter Lewis Taylor and we followed them to the rehearsal studio and around town. They were back in Eugene, December 2, at the WOW Hall. I shot this photo from the stage of a kid surfingthe mosh pit.

>Burfield's Blog - Everything you were thinking but afraid to say
>100% uptime guaranteed. (Between reboots)
Jason Burfield built Sportsshooter.com and that gives him the right to say anything he wants about it. He's just smart enough to say it on his blog.
>Take a look...every day.
>This is a site that has a new photo on it's home page every day. Hence the name. Not only are there a ton of portfolio and picture story galleries, the associated blog is really good for finding good sites related to photography.
